Austin

One part capital, one part educational and many parts sensational

Austin is home to the University of Texas, the state legislature and dozens of high-tech companies that make up the “silicon hills”. It’s also The Live Music Capital of the World and one of the top ten places to make a movie.

Almost all the SXSW events take place in Downtown Austin. The daytime conference events are held exclusively at the Austin Convention Center (4th and Neches Street). But come sun down, the music parties, film screenings and interactive events are scattered about town.

But there is good news. You’ll never need to rent a car.

Some events happen on the East site, which has IH35 (expressway) as a boundary. To the north is UT and south is where you’ll find Ladybird Lake and the ten-mile hike and bike trail that goes around her.

Pack light – it’s Texas

When you’re not spending your company’s revenue in a session, theater or music venue, you’ll be enjoying 50-70 degree temps (F). Of course, anything can happen and it could be as hot as 90. Or as cold as 20. Just check the weather before making the trip, and bring a lightweight weatherproof jacket in case it rains (odd chance of that – Austin gets 300 days of sun a year).

Your days will be long, so comfortable shoes are clothes are in order. And maybe a couple nice outfits for evening fun.
