Do taste the best of the local Austin Breweries and Food.
Don’t expect to come back feeling remotely healthy. Tex Mex and good beer are not going to help your diet.
Do try a Shiner Bock beer and anything from Real Ale (the Fireman’s Four is wonderful).
Don’t expect those beers to taste like Lone Star, but you should try that, too.
Do enjoy the culture and uniqueness of Austin – it’s the only city in the state that is less conservative and more liberal.
Don’t ogle and take pictures of the eccentric Austinites. There’s a reason they sell those ‘Keep Austin Weird’ shirts at the tourist traps.
Do get some exercise and walk along Ladybird Johnson Lake. Great views and people watching.
Don’t rent a Segway, unless you want to hear people say “hey look at that dork on the Segway”.
Do use your feet to travel – Austin is very accessible for walkers.
Don’t rent a car, you won’t need it.
Do buy a t-shirt from your conference.
Don’t wear it until you get home – you don’t want to be “that guy” (or “gal”).
