So you’ve made it to Austin, armed with everything you could possibly need for your trip.
Or so you thought.
Here’s a quick directory of places you might need to visit.

The coolest market you’ve ever seen is Whole Foods. No, not the little one in your neighborhood. We’re talking flagship, baby. The store on 6th and Lamar is a site to behold, so give yourself some time.

If you need a desk and proper working environment, try Conjunctured, a great co-working spot just east on 7th.

Photocopying, stationery, etc
Your best bet for stationery and office supplies is OfficeMax beside Whole Foods.

Wifi
The Convention Center Wifi is alway put under huge strain by the number of people using at one time, and that can make it flaky. If you need something more robust for any reason, try the listings at Austin Wireless City Project and/or iLoveFreeWifi for coffee shops etc with Wifi.
Doctor / Dentist
You could swing a dead cat by it’s tail and hit a professional medical office in Austin.

Mobile phones (for non-US residents)
Canada
Most of the major carriers (Rogers, Bell and Telus) will have network coverage in Texas. If you are a on a monthly billing system check with your provider to see what the are. They will most will differ a small bit between the carriers, but the rates will be your typical US roaming charges.
If you are on a pay as you go plan make (Virgin, Koodo, Solo and Fido) sure to check with your provider before leaving. Sure they might piggy back networks off the big guys in Canada, but there might be a good chance that they don’t have a a deal worked out with any of the US carriers.
Get a Prepaid Phone
So you’re are at SXSW for business, or you’re at the Music festival and want to be able to actually find your friends occasionally? If you’re not a US resident, you’re best bet is to buy a prepaid US mobile phone. While this sounds expensive, the chances are it will save you money over using your foreign mobile and incurring some serious roaming charges.
The best deals we have found are from Net10. You can buy these phones at the OfficeMax store mentioned above. Handsets start at $29, and all Net10 handset purchases include $30 dollars credit (calls are $0.10 per mintue and texts are $0.05 each) and 60 days activation. One of us used this last year and it was perfect for our needs. Realistically you can get through the whole Interactive or Music festival on $29, which is like a LOT cheaper than using your existing mobile abroad.
